Choose The Right Tests And Screenings
General guidelines for the types of tests and screenings that
should be conducted during regular health examinations.
While these are general guidelines, task force officials urge
patients to consult their physicians to determine which tests
and screenings are appropriate for them. For more detailed information,

AGES 11-24
Men and women: height and weight, blood pressure, assess for problem
drinking, hepatitis B immunization.
Women: Pap test, chlamydia screen
(for women under age 20), rubella serology or vaccination (for
women over age 12). Women planning or capable of pregnancy should
take a multivitamin with folic acid.
AGES 25-64
Men and women: height and weight, blood pressure, total blood
cholesterol (for men ages 35-65 and women ages 45-65), fecal
occult blood test and/or sigmoidoscopy
(for men and women over age 50), assess for problem drinking,
tetanus-diphtheria boosters.
Women: Pap smear, mammogram and/or
clinical breast exam, rubella serology or vaccination (for women
of childbearing age). Women planning or capable of pregnancy should
take a multivitamin with folic acid.
Women of peri- and post-menopausal age should discuss hormone
prophylaxis with their physicians.
AGE 65 AND OLDER
Men and women: height and weight, blood pressure, fecal occult
blood test and/or sigmoidoscopy, vision screening, assess for
hearing impairment, assess for problem drinking, pneumococcal
vaccine, influenza, tetanus-diphtheria boosters (immunization).
